The Geothermal Park
A hidden gem in the center of Hveragerði
This hot spring area in Hveragerði is located in the middle of the town and is one of the most remarkable natural pearls of the South. Hveragerði is on the eastern edge of the volcanic belt that runs from Reykjanes through Þingvellir and north of Langjökull glacier, and the hot spring area lies across this volcanic belt. A visitor centre is located on-site to obtain information about geothermal energy, microbiology, geology, and volcanic activity. In addition, it explains how the utilization of geothermal energy takes place, the depth of the main borehole, and how power is obtained and utilized. Guests can also boil an egg in the geothermally heated water, have a taste of the rye bread baked in the steam overnight, watch the geyser that erupts every 20 minutes and take a look through the greenhouse. This destination provides an opportunity to engage with the Earth's powerful forces, offering a blend of education and enjoyment.
